... IN 2003 the European Union adopted Directive 2002/96 on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) which obliges producers to take back waste electrical and electronic equipment. Producers (or their representatives) must register in every EU member state where their products are placed on the market. 

 

... ONCE REGISTERED, PART OF THE PRODUCER’S OBLIGATION is to report on the quantities and types of EEE placed on the market. This data on market share for each type of equipment is used to calculate the producer’s obligation in regard to the take back of WEEE and the financial guarantees he or she needs to provide. 

 

... IN GERMANY PRODUCERS WERE OBLIGED to register by 23 November 2005 in order to be allowed to continue selling on the German market. The obligation to submit reports of products placed on the market began on the same date.
